Wal-Mart slowly stepping away from the Dark Side?
Kudos to Wal-Mart Canada for their newest development in helping toward a reduction in waste materials. According to a story on GreenBiz.com
, the corporate heavyweight has introduced plastic shipping containers
into their fleets as oppose to the wasteful cardboard variety, allowing
the containers to be reused about 60 times, reduce waste by more than
1,400 tonnes, and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 10,000
tonnes. According to the article, this is going to become a wordwide
practice for the Wal-Mart corporation.
Vancouverites tighten the digital divide with refurbs
I wish this momentum would start blowing out East a little. No matter,
more great news from Vancouver has a couple of entrepreneurs bringing
the world closer through reusing old computers. An effort called Free
Geek Vancouver, is offering folks a free computer if they're willing to
lend a hand in refurbishing six computers - five of which go to Third
World countries - the sixth goes home with them. Check out the entire article here.
David Suzuki plugs Vancouver's Reuse effort
This was a really nice wallop on the back not only for the Reuse
Network and iWasteNot Systems, but the entire reuse effort. In his
"Small Steps" column on June 20th, noted environmentalist David Suzuki
makes mention of Vancouver.Reuses.com, mentioning that it's a great
resource for household appliances or renovation materials. You can
find the article in its entirety at Canada.com .
